The debate around high quality CPD rages on. Some say that one day training inputs do not carry any value and that the only CPD with any power is that which is delivered over a period of time on several occasions. The language of 'measurable impact' and 'outcomes for young people' detracts from the relationship between one human being and another which is at the heart of the kinds of training that we want to do at Drama and Co. Drawing on Vygotsky's philosophy of the power of the Zone of Proximal development, we believe that adults crave contact with other adults who are experiencing the same problems, issues and moments of joy that they are. The challenge in planning and delivering high quality drama education training lies in balancing the delivery of relevant knowledge and skills with the demands of accountability led educational system. Above all, our training seeks to recognised the emotional intelligence that drives people to generate high quality teaching and learning for students. We believe that a cultural context of NLEs, SLEs and high powered Teaching Schools is really powerful but that labels do not necessarily make great trainers! We hope to work alongside colleagues with excellent local knowledge and skills bringing our own high quality skills in Drama education to the workshop space.
Ours is not a sacred space but rather the space of Peter Brook's dreams - an empty space but one which is full of dreams. We hope to see many of our readers there soon....
